Updates & staying supported
How the app updates itself, what each reminder means, and how to update by hand.
On Windows the app updates itself. You will normally see a small note that a new version is ready, press a button, and it restarts into the new one. This page is for the times that is not what happens.
On a Mac, updates are not automatic yet. The app still tells you when a new version is out, but you download and install it yourself from the download page, the same way you installed it the first time. It takes a couple of minutes and your data is kept. The steps are under Updating below.
Your data is never at risk
An update replaces the program, not your shop. Sales, stock, customers, settings and your licence live in a separate folder on the computer and are untouched by installing a new version, or by uninstalling and reinstalling. Taking a backup first is still a good habit, and the backup guide shows how.
Update the Main PC first. Other tills follow.
To see what an update actually changes before you take it, read what's new in each version.
The reminders, and what each one means
Every version is supported until a date we set. As that date approaches the app gets gradually more insistent, in four steps:
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Nothing | You are on a supported version. | Nothing. |
| A reminder you can close | The last week before support ends. It reappears about once a day. | Update when convenient. |
| A banner you cannot close | The last day. | Update today. |
| A live countdown | The last hour. | Update now. |
| A full screen saying the version is no longer supported | Support has ended. Selling is blocked. | Update from that screen. |
The final screen is not a lockout of your data. It re-checks with us as it opens, so if we have extended your deadline it simply lets you back in, and it carries a link to download your data even if it cannot.
On a Mac, "update" always means the by-hand steps below.
Updating
The normal way, on Windows. When the app offers an update, press Update now and let it restart.
By hand. This is how every Mac updates, and it is also the answer on Windows if the button does nothing or the PC has no direct internet access:
- Open the Download page on any computer or phone.
- Download the newest installer for that computer.
- On Windows: run the
.exeover the top of the existing install. Do not uninstall first. Windows may show the "Windows protected your PC" box: click More info, then Run anyway. - On a Mac: quit the app, then open the
.dmgand drag SalezFlow POS onto the Applications folder, choosing Replace when asked.
Your data is kept. When it reopens, everything is where you left it.
If "Update now" does nothing
On a Mac there is no automatic update to fail, so use the by-hand steps above. On Windows this is almost always a network problem between the shop and us, not a broken app.
- Check the PC is really online by opening any website in a browser.
- Try again. Updates are downloaded in the background and a failed attempt is harmless.
- After a few failed attempts the app offers an Inspect button. It shows exactly which address it tried and what came back. Send us that text and we can usually tell you the answer immediately.
- Meanwhile, use the manual route above. It always works.
Why an old version disappears from the download page
We retire versions once they are out of support, so nobody installs something that will lock a day later. If you are looking for a build that is gone, the newest one is the one you want, and if you genuinely need an older one, ask us.
